Hello

I have HP P500 1 TB SSD. It is failing when i am trying to copy a few folders to my laptop. I have tried multiple laptops. But those folders failing across. Whenever i click on those folders laptop hangs (including other laptops) and gets ejected.

I do not see any drivers for this product. Also, it looks hardware problem(NAND failure).

Data stored in that ssd is very very important and i need to recover. Can you please help here?

Hi @Ammu_bhai

Welcome to the HP Support Community! We're here to help you get back up and running.

Thank you for explaining the situation so clearly. It’s genuinely distressing to face potential data loss—especially when the SSD contains irreplaceable information and behaves consistently across multiple systems. Based on your description, this does appear to be a critical NAND-level failure on the HP P500 1TB SSD, and immediate care is needed to avoid further damage.

Here’s a structured recovery path to help protect and potentially recover your data:

Step 1: Basic Checks

Try a different cable/port – Sometimes connection instability can mimic hardware failure. If possible, use a high-quality USB cable and a different USB port (preferably USB 3.0).

Avoid repeated plug/unplug attempts – Each attempt can increase the risk of further corruption if the drive is failing physically.

Step 2: Run a Hardware Check

HP offers a built-in tool called HP PC Hardware Diagnostics Windows. While it doesn’t repair the SSD, it can confirm if the drive has hardware errors.
You can download it here: HP PC Hardware Diagnostics Windows

Step 3: Try Data Recovery Software

If the SSD is still detected but hangs when accessing folders, data recovery tools might bypass the damaged file table:

Recuva (by Piriform)

TestDisk/PhotoRec (open source)

EaseUS Data Recovery Wizard

These tools can attempt to scan the drive sector by sector and recover what is still intact.

Step 4: If It’s Hardware Failure (Most Likely in Your Case)

Because you mentioned “NAND failure,” this suggests physical faults inside the SSD itself. Unfortunately, software tools won’t help if the memory cells are failing. In such cases, professional data recovery is the safest path.

HP phone support does not provide in-house data recovery, but you can reach out to certified recovery specialists who work with SSDs.

Many services offer a free evaluation so you can decide whether the data is recoverable before committing.

Step 5: Warranty vs Data

If your SSD is under warranty, HP can replace the hardware, but the replacement process does not include data recovery. Since your data is critical, it’s best to attempt recovery first before sending it for replacement.
