@Jm126 -- do you need more than 12 GB of RAM? Open the Windows "Task Manager", and switch to its "Performance" tab. It will show you the percentage of your RAM that is being used. If that number is below 40%, then buying more RAM is a waste of your money.
Is this your computer: HP Pavilion 24-r014 All-in-One Desktop PC Product Specifications | HP® Customer Support
This web-page states:
Memory upgrade information
- Dual channel memory architecture
- Two DDR4 SODIMM (260-pin) sockets
- Supports PC4-19200 (DDR4-2400)
- Supports 2 GB, 4 GB, and 8 GB DDR4 SODIMMs
- Supports up to 16 GB (unbuffered) on 64-bit systems
So, to get to the maximum, you will have to remove the 4GB stick, and add one 8GB stick.
The stick you add will need to match the specifications of your current 8GB stick.
For the "extra" 4GB of RAM, and the extra expense, I would not bother with any upgrade.
I doubt that you will recoup any money by trying to sell the removed 4GB stick on eBay.
