Hi @dreaddymck,
Welcome to The HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
I understand you are facing an issue with your HP Pavilion Desktop TP01-2022 won’t power on and you're suspecting a faulty motherboard or power issue, here are some steps you can try for troubleshooting:
1. Check Power Supply
- Ensure the power cable is properly plugged in and connected to a functioning outlet.
- Test with a different power cord or outlet if available.
- Check the Power Supply Unit (PSU): If you have a multimeter or a spare PSU, check if your current PSU is delivering power.
2. Perform a Hard Reset
- Unplug the power cord from the desktop and hold down the power button for 15-30 seconds to discharge any residual power.
- Reconnect the power cable and try to power on the system again.
3. Check Internal Connections
- If you're comfortable opening up the case, ensure that all internal cables (e.g., power supply to motherboard, GPU, RAM) are securely connected.
- Reseat components like RAM and GPU by removing them and carefully placing them back in.
4. Remove External Devices
- Disconnect all external devices (USB drives, external hard drives, peripherals) and try powering on with just the monitor, keyboard, and mouse connected.
5. Test the Power Button
- The issue could be with the power button itself. Some desktops allow you to short two pins on the motherboard to bypass the power button and manually turn on the system.
- Look up the motherboard manual for pin details to check if this could be the case.

I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.

Hi Gaya1239
This is the original poster dreaddymck. HP community forced me to register a new id for reasons unknown.
I do appreciate your response so here goes.
First off there is this ongoing issue since the Amazon purchase: With the desktop being the only device connected to a 900VA UPS, it will shut down immediately if a brownout occurs. That UPS is brand new and appears to be functioning properly..
The hard reset suggestion does not work as expected, that said the machine will power on after a few hours or up to a few days of attempts. My multimeter thinks the power supply is fine and changing power cables does not make a difference
Internal cables, RAM, etc appear to be securely connected. I did not touch the "A/C/GPU" ( beyond my comfort level.)
Something weird:
When powered off and ethernet connected, the led will light up briefly when the power button is pressed, but the machine will not power on, not until time has passed
I suspect the board itself is faulty, but do not have access to a replacement to confirm. Would like to buy it but do not know where to go. I see used boards online but am hesitant.
The device is out of warranty, overseas with no convenient access to HP tech support, I am in fact on my own.
