Hello

I need to replace the original graphics card on this machine (nVIDIA GT420 2gb).  Not for any specific purpose other than the fan is not working properly and it's easier and cheaper to replace the whole unit.  I did some research and went for a Zotac nVIDIA GT 730 Zone Edition 4GB but despite it only needing slightly more power the desktop wouldn't book when it was installed.

Can anyone recommend what graphics card I should be looking for please - a few options would be good.

Hi:

Your PC has a legacy BIOS which means that anything newer than a GT 6xx model series graphics card won't work.

The GT 730 requires a UEFI BIOS with a BIOS revision of 8.1x or newer in order to work.

It was not a power issue.

See if you can find a used but tested and working GT 630 if your PC's power supply is 250W or greater.

Thanks Paul, most helpful.  I have made enquiries about the card you recommend.

You're very welcome.

You should be able to find one on eBay UK.

Yes I made my enquiry to someone on ebay and have now made my purchase.  Hopefully resolved!

I received the GT 630 card today but when I installed it I had exactly the same issue - the desktop failed to boot up.  I've had to put the original one back in.

Hi:

I am very surprised the GT 630 didn't work.

It should have because those are supposed to work on PC's with Legacy BIOS'.

Unfortunately, I don't know what the problem could be, so I guess you will have to buy a used but tested and working GT 420 graphics card your PC came with, or look up your PC's specs ,and see what the optional graphics cards were offered in the model series.
