HP Pavilion Gaming Desktop PC TG01-1000i (8BG55AV)

Hi. I wonder if - after upgrading my PSU to 550W one - I would be able to install an i9 10900f CPU?

It is not on the specifications and possible upgrades page (10700 is the top one there), however the H470 chipset does support all Comet Lake CPUs and 10900f's TDP is indeed 65W (if that does matter).

Greetings @Beatsbury

Welcome to the HP Forum.

This question is difficult to answer unless someone in this Forum has hands on experience.

I can only say the 10900F might work and it might not.

The TDP does matter and, yes, the H470 chipset and your MB's CPU socket support this processor.

HP would have to add BIOS support for this processor if it is not listed as an upgrade option at the MB support site.. The PC would not POST if the BIOS can't ID the processor.

I can't say if I have ever seen HP add additional CPU support on consumer HP PCs via a BIOS update. I have seen HP add CPU support on business PCs.

You would have to try the 10900F at your own risk.

@Beatsbury,

The i9-10900 / i9-10900F are totally compatible with your HP Pavilion Gaming Desktop TG01-1xxx.

As you observed, these processors have a low 65-watt TDP, and will be accepted in your system without any issues whatsoever, as this User shows: https://www.userbenchmark.com/UserRun/53785234.

And as a matter of fact -yes, I know I'm digressing here, your PC will also accept 95-watt processors, such as the i7-10700K as this User shows: https://www.userbenchmark.com/UserRun/58988619.  However, if you go this off-the-HP-Reservation-Path, you should also upgrade your CPU heatsink and improve the overall airflow through your case by adding one or more cooling fans.

Kind Regards,

Greetings @NonSequitur777

I knew I could get your attention on this one.

I don't want to say "go for it" when I am unsure.

Cheers!
