pavilion all in one
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

HP Pavilion All-in-One.  Purchased 9/15/2020.  i had to purchase a new hp mouse (which I returned).  The mouse curser works but now the keyboard doesnt work.  It seems like the one plug that goes into the usb port controls both the mouse and the keyboard.  What do I do now.  Only one or the other works.  Also is there an adapter that will plug into the usb 3.0 port and have a usb 2 on the other end?

Your mouse and keyboard should work whether they are plugged into a USB2 or a USB3.

If one device quits working when the other is plugged in there is something wrong.   Back of your system show look like the following

Mouse and keyboard in the left two and the "SS" is the super speed USB3

Either device should work in any of those sockets including the SS

If indeed there is a problem and only one port is working then you obtain an in-expensive USB 2 or 3 hub and plug the hub into the working port and plug your devices into the hub.  Be sure to get a powered hub.

HP has a Link-5 product (nano USB receiver) which supports up to 5 mice / keyboards and they must support Link-5.

In your case, the old set (mouse/keyboard/USB receiver) worked together. Now you have 2 USB receivers therefore you have to use 2 USB ports to connect to 2 different devices.

Hope this makes sense.

Regards.
