I've been having this problem with error 90b on my Pavilion laptop/pc 15-eg, and I did a BIOS update and tested the fan in the BIOS component test, which shows that fan number 1 passes every speed test, but fan number 2 doesn't even start.
So I ordered a replacement fan online and replaced it, but it still shows that it's not working, and I thought, Oh, maybe I placed it in the wrong slot so I moved it to the right slot, but it still shows error 90B
I downloaded a fan speed test application to see the rpm of the fan. It shows that fan 1 is running at 4000 rpm and fan 2 is capping at 135-145 rpm. Is this a motherboard cooling fan connection problem or something else ?.

Hi @PhatLe,
Welcome to the HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.
The issue you are experiencing with your HP Pavilion Laptop PC 15-eg2000 regarding error 90b typically indicates a problem with the cooling fan. You have already taken steps to update the BIOS and replace the fan, which are good troubleshooting steps. Here are some additional suggestions to address the error:
- Ensure Correct Installation: Double-check that the replacement fan is properly seated in its designated slot. Make sure that all connections are secure and that the fan is properly aligned.
- Verify Fan Compatibility: Confirm that the replacement fan is compatible with your specific laptop model. An incompatible fan may not function correctly even if installed properly.
- Inspect the Motherboard: Inspect the fan connector on the motherboard to ensure there is no visible damage. Sometimes the issue could be with the connector rather than the fan itself.
- Clean the Fan Area: Make sure the area around the fan is clean and free from dust or debris that could obstruct fan operation.
- Perform a Hard Reset: Sometimes, performing a hard reset can resolve hardware issues. Disconnect the power supply and remove the battery. Hold the power button for about 15 seconds, then reconnect the power source and turn on the laptop.
- Check for Software or Sensor Issues: Ensure that no software obstacles are preventing the fan from operating. Sometimes, fan control software or sensor issues can cause operational problems.
I hope this helps.
Take care, and have an amazing day!
