hp pavilion p6-2114d
Microsoft Windows 7 (64-bit)

Hi! I'm wondering if someone can help me about my pc. It is the old HP Pavilion P6-2114d, could I still upgrade my graphics card (AMD Radeon HD 7450) base on many reviews it's not a gaming graphics card but I would like to know if I could still upgrade my pc's graphics card. I'm really not sure what product should I buy or if it is possible to upgrade my pc. I would love to play early access indie games on my pc and looking at my graphics card memory that has only 1GB memory will not be enough.

More details of my motherboard:

- Joshua-H61-uATX

- LGA 1155

Expansion Slots:
  • 1 PCI Express x16 (Gen2.0)
  • 3 PCI Express x1 (Gen2.0)
  • 1 PCI Express Mini Card x1

- I have 2GB of RAM

- Radeon HD 7450 Graphics Card & 1GB onboard Memory

Thank you in advance.

@CNemo2017, welcome to the forum.

Newer video cards require UEFI in the motherboard instead of a Legacy/standard BIOS.  HP didn't begin using UEFI until mid-October, 2012.  The BIOS can't be upgraded to UEFI.  The last video cards not to require UEFI are the GTX 660/670 series.

Your best option would be to choose a manufacturer and contact their Tech Support for help with choosing the best card for your system.  This will save you frustration and money.  The etailers will pay for shipping to you, but you pay for shipping back to them if the card doesn't work.

Hi old_geekster

I was replying to this post.

I gave up because it is a strange PC. :Crying:

There are UEFI BIOS updates for this product when running Windows 8.x.

What is up with this?

Hey @Grzwacz,

It appears that HP used this motherboard with Win 8, as well.  The update won't work with Win 7, however.  I wish they wouldn't show the Win 8 BIOS updates with Win 7 because it is confusing.

Hi old_geekster! You're a big help. I'm still confused.

I was looking for another thread of HP Pavilion p6-2114d and one owner actually has upgraded his video card to GTX550ti.

You we're saying about GTX 660 or GTX 670 series to be the last video cards not requiring UEFI, so it is still possible to upgrade the video cards? Thank you sir.

Yes, you can upgrade the video card, as long as, you don't buy a card that is newer than the GTX 660/670 series, @CNemo2017.  If it requires UEFI in the motherboard it won't run.

Hello sir, old_geekster? I asked NVidia cutomer support and they said, "NVIDIA GPUs will work with both UEFI and legacy BIOS. So it should work with this PC." they also suggested if I would plan to upgrade my GPU Ithe best option base on my PSU 300watts is this https://www.evga.com/products/product.aspx?pn=04G-P4-6251-KR . You're an expert and I need your ideas. Thanks a lot for helping me.

Hi sir, old_geekster? once again I'm here for your advices. I've contacted Nvidia's customer support and asked for the problem I had earlier and he told me this, "

I checked the specs from : https://support.hp.com/au-en/document/c03288944 and could see that it has a PCI Express x16 (Gen2.0)  expansion bus & 300W of PSU. Also this is a regular sized tower.

With this PSU Wattage this is the best card I can recommend : https://www.evga.com/products/product.aspx?pn=04G-P4-6251-KR

If you are upgrading the GPU then you can consider going for higher cards like GTX 1060 / 1070 etc.

" and he also told me "NVIDIA GPUs will work with both UEFI and legacy BIOS. So it should work with this PC."

So I know you're an expert so I need your help. Thanks a lot for helping me sir.
