Microsoft Windows 11

I'm not very knowledgeable in the realm of IT, but I have a HP Pavilion, no upgrades, and wanted to know if this desktop is powerful enough to export 1- hour videos in less than 1 hour? I use Premier Pro to edit videos, and though I would like to do longer videos, my desktop takes too long to export them. Example, I create a one-hour video with only audio and video transitions. My desktop sometimes takes 30 minutes, and other times takes 2 hours. I have tried to adjust everything in the program to shorten the export time and nothing really works, so I was wondering if this is a hardware problem. For reference, I have 60gb of space on my desktop.

Hi @Avione07,

To the question: can I Upgrade my HP Pavilion Desktop TP01-0066 for the purpose of pro video editing?

By Zeus, yes, you can!

The question is: how much money are you willing to invest in it to make that happen?

Firstly, according to HP's specs, your "Erica" motherboard, SSID: 8643: https://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c06429270 has two memory slots, and can handle up to 32 GB (2 x 16GB) of unbuffered udimm DDR4-25600 (3200 MHz) RAM.

For video etc. editing, you would need AT LEAST 16 GB (2 x 8GB).

If this PC was mine, I would seriously consider to purchase this RAM (or something like it): TEAMGROUP Elite Plus 2 x 8GB DDR4 PC4-25600 UDIMM unbuffered (288-pin) which is offered at Amazon for $57.99 -pretty competitively priced, imo.

If you want to go all out, 2 x16GB of the same brand would set you back $116.99 as seen via the same Amazon link:

https://www.amazon.com/TEAMGROUP-3200MHz-PC4-25600-Unbuffered-Computer/dp/B086X2FK4T/ref=sr_1_8?crid...

Secondly, if you haven't done so already, your PC really needs to have a decent primary/boot solid state drive (SSD). I would suggest at least 500 GB, but that is up to you. You can purchase a 500 GB SSD for less than $60 via Amazon.

Thirdly, you need to pair the above with a decent processor. At least an AMD Ryzen 5 3500 ($150+ via eBay), better still: an AMD Ryzen 7 3700X ($220+ via eBay).

Fourthly [EDIT:], Lest I forget: if you go with one of the two AMD Ryzen CPU's I mentioned, you'll need to add a graphics processing unit (GPU) in your motherboard's PCIe X16 socket because these processors don't have integrated graphics. According to UserBenchMark [dot] com, Users have installed up to a Nvidia RTX 2060: https://www.userbenchmark.com/System/HP-Pavilion-tp01-0066-Desktop-Rfrbd-PC/178616 -That would be major overkill for your purposes, so instead consider something like a Low Power, Low Profile RX 550: https://www.amazon.com/MSI-128-bit-DirectX-Graphcis-Renewed/dp/B07S1CSF72/ref=sr_1_4?crid=210ML02S00... which costs $145.17 at this moment in time [02/05/2020].

And there you have it. The computer components mentioned here would transform your desktop into a lean-mean Editing machine.

The thirty minutes to two hours video transition time will shrink to a fraction of the time it takes right now.

Good luck!

Kind Regards,

@Avione07 , welcome to the Community.

What is the Product Number of the computer? I need this information to review the specifications of it. Please don't furnish the Serial # or other personal information. You can find the Product Number at the bottom of the page when you open HP Support Assistant.  Once I have this information I will try to answer your question.

Thank you for the additional information, @Avione07!

It is very difficult to know if what you want to achieve is possible with only 8GB of memory and 2GB of video memory.  I do have my doubts that it will work.

Is it costly to upgrade both of those?

hi @Avione07  , @old_geekster

sorry @old_geekster  but if can help you

"Example, I create a one-hour video with only audio and video transitions. My desktop sometimes takes 30 minutes, and other times takes 2 hours. I have tried to adjust everything in the program to shorten the export time "

what do you mean here, it is the time of creation of the video, recording on the computer?
Or "export" because you transfer the video somewhere?
what software do you use?

I use Premiere Pro to do the editing. The program allows you to render the scenes, so it doesn't have to while exporting. I also turned down the bitrate to 5-6, but none of this shortens the time.
