Hi @NR852,
Welcome to The HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
I understand you are facing an issue with your HP Product. Not to worry I will help you to get a resolution to resolve the issue.
To resolve the write protection issue on your HP pen drive, follow these steps:
Method 1: Check for Physical Write Protection Switch
- Inspect the Pen Drive: Some USB drives have a physical switch that enables write protection. Check the drive for any switches and make sure it is set to the "unlock" position.
Method 2: Use Diskpart Command
Open Command Prompt:
- Press Win + X and select Command Prompt (Admin) or Windows PowerShell (Admin).
Run Diskpart:
- Type diskpart and press Enter. This will open the Diskpart utility.
List Disk:
- Type list disk and press Enter. This will show you all the connected drives.
Select Your USB Drive:
- Identify your USB drive from the list (note its disk number) and type select disk X (replace X with your USB drive’s disk number) and press Enter.
Remove Write Protection:
- Type attributes disk clear readonly and press Enter. You should see a confirmation message.
Format the USB Drive (if needed):
- After clearing the write protection, type format fs=ntfs quick (or format fs=fat32 quick for a different file system) and press Enter.
Exit Diskpart:
- Type exit and press Enter to close Diskpart, then close the Command Prompt.
Method 3: Check for Malware
Sometimes, write protection can be triggered by malware. Run a full system scan using Windows Defender or any trusted antivirus software to ensure your system is clean.
Method 5: Try on a Different Computer
If none of the above methods work, try connecting the USB drive to a different computer to see if it functions properly there.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
