So, using this info, if I only were to use one ram stick, it would go in the black slot?

Yes, but when you only use one of the 2 GB chips in the black slot, the PC will run in the lower performing 'Flex mode.'

 

I recommend you read the service manual for the proper placement of the memory chips so you achieve the best performance.

 

Naturally if you have the same Ram capacity (4 x 4 GB), this isn't important, but if you have 8 GB, 4 GB, 2 GB chips, you need to install them correctly.   See chapter 6, pp 62 - 64.
