Hello, I have a new, unused HP Pro Tower 290 G9 PCI Desktop computer. The stock Windows 10 system was installed, but the motherboard didn't work. I replaced the power supply and RAM, but it didn't work. Is there a solution?

@musamhmed,

Welcome to our HP Community forum!

I would like a bit more information about your HP Pro Tower 290 G9 PCI Desktop computer: what wattage is your power supply, what RAM (part number), what processor is installed, and what graphics card (if applicable) do you have.

In the meanwhile, it sounds like your HP Pro Tower 290 G9 is failing to power on even after replacing the power supply and RAM. A few important things to keep in mind:

Key Points:

  • This model uses a proprietary HP power supply (180, 260, 350, or 500-watt).

  • In my experience, if your PC doesn't show any signs of power or POST, the motherboard is likely faulty.

  • Try a CMOS reset (remove the coin-cell battery for 1 minute), then attempt a minimal boot (CPU + 1 stick of RAM, no drives).

Recommended Action:

Since this is a new, unused system, it should be under warranty. Check your PC's warranty status, and if your PC is under warranty, contact HP Support with your serial number and describe the issue and steps you've taken. In any regards, I'm just preparing you for the possibility that a motherboard replacement is likely required.

Kind Regards,
