@IrlConor,

Yes, these plates cannot be removed simply by pulling them up, they need to be 'manhandled' a little (wiggled loose/twist & turn) in order to detach them from their metal contact attachment points to the case.

This is not a terribly elegant process.  In my experience, sometimes it takes a little wrist-bending 'persuasion' with a pair of pliers to remove these plates.

Kind Regards,

@IrlConor,

Welcome to our HP User Forum!

Do you mean the removal of one or both PCIe slot covers?

First, you want to swing out the expansion slot cover brace (green arrow), and then use a pair of pliers to carefully 'wiggly' out/free the expansion slot cover plate(s) straight out (up):

Once removed, in this particular case, you cannot reinstall the expendable PCI cover plate(s).

If you mean how to remove the internal drives bay, here is a useful YouTube instructional video how to do that: How to upgrade M.2 Pcie Nvme SSD RAM HP ProDesk 400 G6 SFF Disassembly - YouTube.

Hope this was helpful.
