Hello,

On this link, its' given that HP Probook 470 G2 laptop has a TPM hardware that can be upgraded to 2.0.

https://www.admin-enclave.com/computer/windows/upgrade-your-hp-laptop-to-tpm-2-0

Anf on this website, it's given as solved https://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Desktop-Hardware-and-Upgrade-Questions/update-TPM-1-2-to-2-0/m-p/91852...but no valid links on this forum link.

So how to find a solution to convert TPM2.0 on my HP Probook 470 G2, because All my search seems to indicate it's only a software update to do (even if it's a hardware TPM component to upgrade)

Can someone give me the way or the exe binary file that can upgrade TPM for old but compatible HP hardware ?

Thank you

Regards

Hi:

The information in that article is not accurate.

Below is the list of HP PC's that support the software upgrade from TPM 1.2 to 2.0 and the 470 G2 is not on the list.

HP Desktops, Notebooks, and Workstations - HP TPM Configuration Utility With Windows 10 Anniversary ...

You need a G3 to support the upgrade.

The link you posted as solved pertains the G2 desktop model series which has the Intel Skylake processors.

If you were wanting to update the TPM firmware to 2.0 in order to install W11, note that your notebook's processor does not meet Microsoft's minimum W11 hardware requirements.

If you are interested in installing W11 on your notebook as is, let me know because I have easily upgraded at least a dozen different HP and Dell desktop and notebook PC's that did not meet the W11 hardware requirements.

Yes I'm interested in installing W11 on laptop like mine which have the TPM hardware 1.2 and that did not meet the W11 hardware requirements. Because I'm interested in the way to make a clean W11 in that kind of laptops that works.

Thank you to help me in.

You're very welcome.

If you want to clean install W11, watch this video instead for how to make a bootable W11 installation flash drive with the Rufus utility:

Thank you for the link.

Just some questions:

How the TPM2.0 is treated using your solution of clean W11 install with specific USB boot that bypass all W11 hardware limitations? How to be compliant with TPM2.0 ?

The other question : The fact to upgrade current W10 to W11 is ok with license key and It's recongnized. But if we make a clean W11 install, the current W10 license key won't be accepted ? as it's not an upgrade... or how to specify we have already a W10 license to start with a new empty W11 os ?

Thank you for your help

You're very welcome.

When you check that first box in Rufus that the person did in the video, that bypasses all of the hardware checks.

It will treat the processor and TPM 1.2 security chip as if they were fully supported for W11.

As long as the PC has been upgraded to W10 or originally came with W10, when you clean install W11, do the following:

1. You will get to a screen that asks what version of W11 you want to install.

You select the version of W11 that is the same as the version of W10 that was previously installed (for example, select W11 Pro if the notebook was running W10 Pro).

2. Then you will be asked to enter a product key.

Select the 'I don't have a product key' option, and W11 will install and then activate after you are connected to the internet.

Thank you for your clear answers.

Just a last detail : if I set "no licence key" during W11 clean install. How the link with my current W10 is made ? Or is it meaning It will asked to pay for a new key when I will make the internet activation ?

Because I have a W10 key and for an upgrade the same is used to not pay for W11.

Thank you

You're very welcome.

The nice thing about W11 is that it works with the W10 product key encrypted in your notebook's BIOS, so even when you clean install W11 it will work since Microsoft will have a record of your notebook's W10 product key being valid for your notebook.

You can even install W10 using the W11 product key if the PC came with W11.

There is a possibility that if your notebook came with W10 from HP and not an older version, you will not even be asked to select the version of W10 you want to install or enter a product key.

If that happens to you, then W11 found the key and will activate after you are connected to the internet with the version of W11 the W10 key is good for.
