This machine (HP Prodesk 600 G4)  currently has a B/E keyed Sata device for wifi/bluetooth.

Can I put in that slot the following SATA drive (from amazon) and use it to boot?

I think you're confusing the M.2 slots.

  • A+E Key is only for stuff like WiFi and Bluetooth.
  • B Key is for SATA only SSD's.
  • B+M Key is SATA and NVMe SSD's
  • M Key is for NVMe only SSD's.

You can't put a B+M Keyed SSD in a A+E Keyed slot and vice versa without some form of slot adapter.

Even then, you can't adapt B Key (sata only) SSD's into a A+E Key slot since it doesn't have a sata controller on the A+E Key slot.

You can adapt a M Key slot (4x PCIe lanes) into a A+E Key slot (1x PCIe lanes) but you will only be only to use NVMe SSD's and it will only use ONE of the PCIe lanes instead of 4 of the lanes.
