How do I update the BIOS if I'm using Linux?

Greetings @JackW1

Welcome to the HP Forum.

I'm not running Linux on a HP PC. I have Linux running on a Gigabyte MB.

I can do a BIOS flash in the BIOS.

I'm thinking you should be able to create a bootable HP USB BIOS Recovery flash drive on a different Windows PC.

Then boot to this recovery drive to see if you can flash the BIOS.

Scroll down to "Recover the BIOS using a USB recovery drive" at this HP Site.

Doing the BIOS update is your decision. Be patient when doing a BIOS update. Don't interrupt this update and loss of power during a BIOS update can corrupt the BIOS.

Yes, that's what I tried, (did it on a windows machine), and the BIOS said something like "Illegal format".

Is there a special way to create that USB drive?

e.g. Fat32? or something else?

Greetings @JackW1

Do you really need the BIOS update?

You saw an "illegal format" error message when using the HP BIOS recovery drive on your PC. You have followed all steps outlined at the HP site link in my first response.

Booting directly to the HP BIOS recovery drive should bypass Linux roadblocks.

HP may be using Fat32 or ExFat. You would have to check the BIOS recovery drive to verify the file format.

Your Enterprise PC may have Wolf Security  (I am not familiar with this software) or something else is happening to cause the error message.

I have zero HP Business PC experience.

You might want to copy and paste your problem in the HP Business Forum.

You might have to use a Serial ISP Programmer to flash the BIOS if you can't get a solution in the HP Business Forum.

Regards
