Hi @inferno-prime,
Welcome to the HP Support Community!
Thanks for reaching out about your concern.
We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.
Yes, it's true that SSDs have a limited lifespan due to their write endurance, but for most users, this isn’t a major concern. Modern SSDs, including HP's, are designed to last many years under normal use.
How SSD Wear Works
SSDs use flash memory cells that degrade after a certain number of write cycles.
The lifespan is measured in Terabytes Written (TBW) or Drive Writes Per Day (DWPD).
Read operations don’t wear out SSDs—only writes do.
Typical SSD Lifespan
HP, WD, Samsung, and other major brands typically offer SSDs with 150–600 TBW (or more).
Example: If an SSD has 300 TBW, you’d need to write 100GB per day for 8 years before wearing it out.
How to Extend SSD Life
Avoid excessive writes (e.g., don’t use it for unnecessary large file transfers).
Enable TRIM (Windows does this automatically).
Use an SSD health tool (HP SSD Toolbox, CrystalDiskInfo).
Don’t fill the SSD to 100%—keep at least 10-20% free.
Should You Worry?
No! Under normal use, an SSD will last longer than the laptop itself.
