@Nigpicker, Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
I understand you're trying to use your HP SimpleSave MD1000H external drive with your new Windows 11 desktop, but you're unable to locate your saved files. I’ll guide you through the steps to check compatibility and access your data.

Step-by-Step: Access Your Files

Check if the Drive is Recognized

  • Press Windows + E to open File Explorer.
  • Look for a drive labeled something like HP SimpleSave or a new drive letter (e.g., E:, F:).
  • If it appears, double-click to open it.

Manually Browse for Files

  • Navigate to folders like:\HPSimpleSave\Backup\ComputerName\C\Users\YourUsername\
  • You should see folders like Documents, Pictures, etc., containing your backed-up files.

Search for Specific Files

  • Use the search bar in File Explorer to look for known file names or extensions (e.g., *.docx, *.jpg).

If You Don’t See the Drive

  • Try plugging the drive into a different USB port.
  • Open Disk Management (Right-click Start > Disk Management) to see if the drive is listed but not assigned a letter. If so, assign it a drive letter.

Software Compatibility

  • If you were using the HP SimpleSave software to back up files, it may not auto-launch on Windows 11.
  • You can try running the software in compatibility mode:
    • Right-click the .exe file on the drive.
    • Select Properties > Compatibility.
    • Check Run this program in compatibility mode for: and select Windows 7 or 10

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
