HP Slim Desktop PC S01-pF2000i (4M0H7AV)
Microsoft Windows 11

Using Vivitar HDMI Capture device on HP Desktop and it will not detect device (USB3).  A second HP Slim Desktop I own also does not detect device.  However, this capture device works on my HP Laptop.  I have run driver update check and they show all current.  Using OBS Studio 64-bit on all 3 PC's.  Have tried another Software package - works on Laptop. but not on either desktop. Had been using Hauppage device and software in the past and could not get their device to connect to either of the Desktops. I am obviously stumped.

Hi @Laker2733 ,

Welcome to The HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

To address the issue of the Vivitar HDMI Capture device not being detected by your HP Slim Desktop PCs, here are some steps you can follow:

Basic Troubleshooting

Check USB Port:

  • Try connecting the capture device to different USB ports on the desktop.
  • Ensure that you are using a USB 3.0 port, as capture devices typically require the higher bandwidth provided by USB 3.0.

Power Cycle:

  • Disconnect the capture device, restart the desktop, and then reconnect the capture device.

Device Manager:

  • Open Device Manager (Press Win + X and select Device Manager).
  • Look for any yellow exclamation marks under the USB controllers or Imaging devices.
  • If you see the Vivitar device listed with a warning, try updating the driver or uninstalling and then reconnecting the device.

USB Controller Drivers:

  • Ensure that the USB controller drivers on your desktops are up to date.
  • You can download the latest USB drivers from the HP support website specific to your desktop model.

OBS Studio Configuration:

  • Open OBS Studio on your desktop.
  • Go to Settings > Video and ensure the correct capture device is selected.
  • If the device isn’t listed, try refreshing the device list or restarting OBS.

Windows Updates:

  • Ensure that your desktops have the latest Windows updates installed.

Driver Update Tools:

  • Use a third-party driver update tool like Driver Booster or Snappy Driver Installer to scan for and update any outdated drivers.

BIOS Update:

  • Check if there is a BIOS update available for your desktop on the HP support website.
  • Follow the instructions to update the BIOS, as sometimes this can resolve hardware compatibility issues.

Check for Conflicting Software:

  • Temporarily disable or uninstall any other video capture or webcam software that might interfere with the Vivitar device.

Check Power Settings:

  • Ensure USB selective suspend is disabled:
    1. Go to Control Panel > Hardware and Sound > Power Options.
    2. Select Change plan settings next to your power plan.
    3. Click on Change advanced power settings.
    4. Expand USB settings and set USB selective suspend setting to Disabled.

Firmware Update:

  • Check if there is a firmware update available for the Vivitar HDMI capture device.

Compatibility:

  • Verify the compatibility of the capture device with your desktop's hardware specifications.
