Hello, I'm looking in to upgrading my Slimline to an SSD. Could I use a SAMSUNG 860 EVO Series M.2 2280 500GB SATA III SSD in the machine, without getting rid of the main HDD?

Yes, there is One M.2 socket 3, key M for a M.2, SSD.  The key M will allow you to install a NVMe or SATA, M.2.  The NVMe would be faster than the SATA M.2 in your link.  Here is a guide that will help you understand the type and keys for M.2, SSD's: https://www.atpinc.com/blog/what-is-m.2-M-B-BM-key-socket-3

Also, here is a HP Knowledge Base article to help you transition from your HDD to the M.2, SSD: https://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Desktop-Knowledge-Base/Upgrading-Desktop-or-Laptop-to-a-SSD/ta-p/73048...
