I installed a WD GREEN SATA SSD M.2 2280 to M.2 socket 3, key M.  I checked Disk management and BIOS, it failed to detect the newly installed SSD. Seeking for help! Thanks

Greetings,

Welcome to the forum.

I am not a HP employee.

M.2 sockets can support SATA devices or PCIe devices or both. This depends on how the motherboard  manufacturer implements the protocol.

HP usually only supports PCIe NVME devices in consumer motherboards.

You need to get a PCie NVME drive to use the M.2 socket on your motherboard.

Hi there,

Thank you so much for your explanation.

I plugged Intel NVMe SSD into the m.2 scoket, It works.

Eventually I purchased a m.2 to SATA enclosure and installed it with my WD Green SATA m.2 SSD, It is working.

Issue resolved, the only disappointment is I couldn't use the m.2 socket for SATA SSD.

Thank you very much! Wish you have a good day!
