HP Spectre x360 - 15-df1033dx
Microsoft Windows 11

I have a 2019 HP Convertible laptop with an intel i7 that I updated to windows 11 a few years ago. A  few weeks ago, upon start up I received an error; F030 Boot device not found. To finally get up and running, I had to perform a clean install of windows 11 including deleting and repartitioning the drive.  Using the recovery drive that i created or the Acronis True Image drive that I created or partition failed to work.

Along the way while trouble shooting, I reloaded the BIOS. The original BIOS was AMI version F.22. HP lists two versions for my laptop that are F.11 and F.30 "NOT" F.22. I have a brand new 2023 Spectre laptop, almost exactly like this one, that has  F.11 BIOS installed (oldest dated bios of the 2 listed). So, since F.22 was not a choice, I attempted to download the F.11 BIOS to a USB drive, but it kept failing to download. I then downloaded and successfully installed version F.30.  It seems to work with only one issue. The touch keyboard is not showing on the taskbar in the lower right hand section (dont know the actual name). But, it does automatically appear when needed.

HP does not show Windows 11 support for this laptop only Windows 10. How can I find out what the proper bios should be for this laptop (running Windows 11)?

BTW. If you ever have to perform a BIOS update from a USB drive created on another computer, the HP instructions are incorrect/incomplete. I did the following to make it work; Insert the drive, hold and continue holding the win key + B key, press and release start.

Thank you in advance

Bob

Hi @Chevybob20,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It seems like you've encountered a few issues with your HP Spectre x360 laptop, including a boot device error and difficulties updating or restoring the BIOS. Here are some steps you can follow to address these issues:

1. Boot Device Not Found Error (F030):

  • The "Boot device not found" error suggests that your laptop couldn't find a bootable device. This could be due to various reasons, including a corrupted operating system, a faulty hard drive, or a BIOS/UEFI setting issue.
  • Since you've already performed a clean install of Windows 11 and repartitioned the drive, the issue might have been related to a corrupted OS or partition.
  • If you encounter this error again, you may want to check your BIOS/UEFI settings to ensure that the correct boot order is configured, with your primary boot drive (usually the SSD/HDD with the OS) as the first option.

2. BIOS Update:

  • It's essential to have the correct BIOS version for your laptop model to avoid compatibility issues or unexpected behavior.
  • If you're unable to download the F.11 BIOS version from HP's official website, make sure you're selecting the correct laptop model and operating system version.
  • Try using a different web browser to download the BIOS update, as sometimes browser settings or extensions can interfere with downloads.
  • If downloading directly from HP's website doesn't work, you might contact HP support for assistance or check for BIOS updates through the HP Support Assistant software (if you have it installed).

3. Troubleshooting the USB Drive:

  • If you're having trouble creating a bootable USB drive with the BIOS update, make sure you're using a reliable USB drive and follow these steps:
    • Format the USB drive to FAT32 file system.
    • Download the BIOS update file from the official HP website and save it to the USB drive.
    • Ensure that the BIOS update file is correctly named (e.g., BIOSUpdate.bin) and placed in the root directory of the USB drive.
    • Follow the instructions provided by HP for updating the BIOS using the USB drive.

4. HP Spectre x360 2023 Model:

  • If you have a new Spectre laptop with a different BIOS version (F.11) and it's working correctly, you may want to consider using that laptop as a reference for BIOS settings if needed.

Remember that BIOS updates should be performed with caution, as an incorrect update can cause serious issues. Always follow the HP instructions and ensure that you have the correct BIOS update for your specific laptop model.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
