Hello HP. I bought a new computer about a week ago. However, I seem to run into an issue where HP Support Assistant asks me to restart my computer. It's annoying and I want to look for a way to permanently get rid of the pop-up. Thank you.

If you have not set it otherwise, the HP Support Assistant is set to automatic download and installation of HP software and drivers.
The HPSA might have a legitimate request, the program might be stuck on an Update that it is repeatedly trying to install, the program might be "glitching" (throwing errors / having some sort of weird problem / needs to be updated itself).
Control Panel > icon view > Programs and Features >
Scroll down, find, Uninstall the HP Support Assistant
After the uninstall is completed, Restart the computer and log in
Download:
- If you have ‘Admin’ control, you may highlight the package and “double-click” to install it, else Right-Click, select run as Administrator and install.

If you wish control over the HPSA, consider:
Windows key + S > search / type: HP Support Assistant > Click to Start HPSA >
Expand Drop down Menu >
Select / Check the “Notify” option
- Check for updates, but let me choose whether to download and install them
Choose options for
- Enable your PC to show contact options, warranty information, and important support messages
- Choose how you would like to be notified
- NOTE: Uncheck all boxes to silence HPSA (as much as possible)
- Set your color scheme for HP Support Assistant
- Welcome screen

Welcome to the Community.
Comment:
The down side of tagging onto an old thread is that you may not get the attention -- or the answers - that you need.
Old threads are likely OK but there is frequently new information available after over a year - and even if not - your "add on" request might not be seen except by a few people.
OK, having said that - it may just be a matter of "cleaning house" so-to-speak and starting fresh...
Suggestion:
Completely remove HPSA / Solutions Framework and start "fresh"
- Uninstall the existing HPSA software, including your "personal" HPSA data.
- Uninstall the HP Solutions Framework (also in Programs and Features).
- Restart the computer and log in.
- Run Check Updates (for Windows 10) - do this. HPSA likes a clean and happy Windows 10.
- If any updates are installed, Restart the computer and log in.
- Download, save, and Install a fresh copy of the HP Support Assistant (Solutions Framework will be installed with the new copy of the HPSA).
Abridged version of the removal portion of the procedure
If you are having problems installing your HP Updates using the HP Support Assistant, use "complete cleanup” steps to remove and then reinstall the HP Support Assistant.
- FIRST uninstall the HP Support Assistant
Control Panel > icon view > Programs and Features
Scroll down, find, Uninstall the HP Support Assistant
After the uninstall is completed, Restart the computer and log in
Important: When / If asked whether you want to save any presets / personal HPSA information, respond to have your personal data associated with the program removed along with the HPSA software. Framework will (re)install if / when the HPSA is installed.
- Restart the computer and log in
- Uninstall HP Solutions Framework software from Programs and Features
HP Solutions Framework is a subset of HPSA. For this reason, the HPSA must be uninstalled before the Solutions Framework can be removed.
- Restart the computer and log in.
Will it work?
Doing as suggested may fix your issue, though as stated, the problem you are having depends on your situation, including:
- Your Operating System version (assuming a recent version of standard Windows 10)
- Computer model,
- Version of HPSA software,
- Whether (and which) HP updates are available for your computer,
- Whether the HPSA is even necessary (for example, business class machines have their own update software),
- Your network (and whether the HPSA is functional in that particular environment. For example: The software requires a very stable Internet connection.
No Joy?
- Start you own new thread on the subject, include all the relevant information, ask for help. Easy - and you may get a useful response from one of our available Experts or Agents.
- In your new thread: Be sure to include what you have tried to fix the problem on your own.
- In general, I personally, gently, and mindfully suggest: Nix any profanity - we sympathize, of course - we simply do not respond to graphic examples of your state of mind. Family community and all that. Thanks.
