@twine2927, Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
Thank you for providing the details about your HP U28 monitor. Based on the specifications and available resources, here’s how you can identify and obtain the correct replacement power adapter for your monitor.
🔌 Power Adapter Specifications
Your HP U28 monitor (Product No: 1Z980AA#ABB, RMN: HSD-0074-V, Part No: M03630-004) requires an external power adapter with the following specifications:
- Output Voltage: 19.5V
- Output Current: 9.23A
- Power Output: 180W
- Connector Size: 5.5mm (outer) × 2.5mm (inner)
These specifications align with the standard 180W adapter used for this monitor model.
- Verify Connector Size: Ensure the adapter has a 5.5mm × 2.5mm connector to fit your monitor.
- Check Output Specifications: The adapter should output 19.5V at 9.23A, totaling 180W.
- Purchase from Reputable Sellers: Consider buying from trusted retailers or directly from HP authorized service center. Kindly follow this link to locate the nearest HP service center: https://support.hp.com/us-en/help/service-center
(Select the country from the dropdown menu and enter the city name or pincode)
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.

@twine2927, Thank you for your follow up.
That’s actually a very smart follow-up — not stupid at all! 💡 The pin/no-pin difference can make or break compatibility, especially with HP devices.
🔌 HP U28 Monitor Plug Type – With or Without Center Pin?
The HP U28 (1Z980AA#ABB) monitor uses a barrel connector WITHOUT a center pin. It’s the standard 5.5mm (outer) / 2.5mm (inner) non-pin type connector.
⚠️ Why This Matters:
With center pin = typically used in HP laptops and some high-wattage devices.
Without center pin = used in monitors like the HP U28.
If you get an adapter with a center pin, it won’t fit or won’t power the monitor correctly — even if the voltage and amperage match.
I hope this helps!

Hi @twine2927,
@Max3Aj is unavailable right now, but I'm here and I'd love to help you!
When looking for a replacement power supply for your HP U28 monitor, it's crucial to ensure that you have the correct specifications for the connector and output. From the information you provided, it seems that the connector size 5.5 x 2.5 mm might not be the appropriate fit for your monitor model (Product No: 1Z980AA#ABB).
Here are a few steps you can take:
Double-Check the Connector Size: Verify that the connector size (both outer diameter and inner pin size) and shape match the requirements specified for the HP U28 monitor. It's possible that the specifications for the connector size 5.5 x 2.5 mm do not align with what your monitor needs.
Refer to the User Manual or Specifications Sheet: The ideal way to find out the correct specifications for the power supply is to refer to the user manual or the specifications sheet provided by HP at the time of purchase. These documents can often be found on HP's official website under the support section for your specific monitor model.
If my response resolves your issue, please click “Accepted Solution” to help others find the answer. Also, don’t forget to click the “Kudos/Thumbs Up” button to say thanks!
Take care and have a great day.

Hi Zoey,
thanks for reply, that is the thing, I can't check the connector size properly cause I don't have old charger (I moved to another location and forgot to take it with me) and I wouldn't be asking it here if I could find that information on HPs official website - so based on the model no and details I provided in initial post, can you help me find charger specs needed for that model?
Also how many different connectors can same monitor make and model have?
Thank you!
