HP VR Backpack G2
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

At the company I work for we own several HP VR backpack g2. On some, the internal battery has stopped working, some of the external battery connectors are starting to get damaged and the status light on the back has stopped working.

Looking at the service manual they all seem like simple fixes that can be performed by us, without having to send the PCs back for service.

My questions are: Will replacing these components void the warranty? Which changes affect the warranty? How long does HP take to repair the machines and give them back (on average)?

The answer they give in the manuals is not clear enough. I highly doubt that opening the back cover to replug the LED connector would void the warranty, but I cannot risk it.

If the device is not working, you either throw it out, self-repair, or exercise the warranty.

I presume that any changes that the HP Service Centre will notice will violate the warranty.

I have nothing for #3, except: have you previously bought a spare unit that you can deploy while the device is being repaired by HP?

The devices are working and the replacements would be done with original HP parts. Even if this fixes whatever issue the devices have, it voids the warranty then? This means, then, that we have no right to change any internal parts, including SSD or RAM?

Thank you for your response

Interesting. If you replace the failed parts with genuine HP parts, and then you much later send the device to an HP Service Centre, will they be able to tell that you have repaired it, and give them justification for voiding the warranty?

Those parts were designed to be "field replaceable units". The warranty should cover faulty devices, but not self-inflected damage, such as broken pins & connectors caused by incorrect installation methods, e.g., "forcing" a stick of RAM into a socket.

But, I am not a lawyer, and I am not authorized to speak on behalf of HP.

Sometimes, free advice is worth exactly what you have paid for it.
