Hi. I recently purchased an HP Z2 G5 SFF (i5-10500) for my girlfriend and wanted to put the Gigabyte RTX 3050 6GB or Sparkle Arc A380 low profile cards. I've already tried it with the Arc and then returned it so I can use that money to buy the 3050. The Z2 does not POST. I've tried both cards during the times I had them on her old SFF ProDesk 600 G2 (i7-6700) and the ProDesk was able to POST with both cards!

I don't know why the ProDesk can POST but the Z2 can't! My only assumption is that the Z2 can't read a PCIe 4.0 GPU? But I saw in a separate forum it was stated that it can read PCIe 4.0 NVMe.

Does anyone if it's a BIOS setting or a hardware problem? Again, both cards worked on the ProDesk

The higher spec Z2 series is just much more finicky about what is supported than the more basic productivity model SFF ProDesk 600 G2.

Found my own fix:

  • Go into the BIOS and disable these two functions in (Advanced)
    • -> Slot Settings
      • -> Disable: Option ROM Download & Resizable Bar (Sorry Arc A380)
