Hello - Just bought the HP Z2 Mini G4 with the Inten i7 8700 processor.
I do quite a lot of 3D work using programs like 3DS Max etc...
When im rending a scene and therefore using all 6 cores and max my CPU temp shoots up to between 94C and 98C
According the the intel Extreme Tuning Utility there is some Themal and Power Limit Throttling occuring.
Is this all normal? would expect it to run hotter than my desktop but seems quite high.
That said it completes the test renders fine and is super quick!
Any help much appriciate

Greetings,
Welcome back to the forum.
I am not a HP employee.
Frequent and sustained CPU temps in the 90C+ degree area is going to shorten the life of your processor.
Power limit throttling is common. Thermal throttling is due to the high CPU temps.
Your PC has a unique chassis design. Don't know what CPU cooling HP has installed or how efficient the chassis airflow is.
You could try reapplying CPU TIM or look at replacing the existing CPU cooling solution.
Since your PC is new it may be best to talk to HP Support (Link) about this.
Again, 90C temps are not good for the silicon.
Regards

Thank you for your reply, the support is seeming a little bit of the flaky side unfortunalty - using my units serial number it keeps showing the following error. This was a UK purchase direct from the UK HP site last week.
If anyone from HP can help that would be great!

Ooops didnt spot that was on there, cheers for the heads up!
Just spoken to HP uk and they say that this is all normall when the CPU in question is running under load as it would be during 3D rendering tasks. They also said not to worry as I have 3 year on site warranty so if there is a failure they will be on it (ha ha) not sure what to make of that but i guess all good!
