Hello. Looking to add NVMe M.2 Internal Solid State Drive as second hard drive. Is buying one with heat sink advisable or required? Samsung makes the 970 EVO Plus SSD without heat sink, and there are several other available from Crucial and Samsung and WD that come with or without a heat sink. It seems that the HP Turbo M.2 that was installed as main boot drive does have an HP provided heat sink, but none of those are available it seems.

Hi:
You can buy the heatsink, but they are $30 from the vendor at the link below and HP sells them for $92 and change.
hp SPS-HEATSINK FY22 M.2 SSD - Z2 G9 WORKSTATION TWR.. - N02705-001 (pcxssolutions.com)
Also, the PC supports Gen 4.0 SSD's, so would get one of those instead of the outdated Samsung 970.
Here's the parts list to a Z2 G9 I picked at random, and that is where I found the heat sink part number.
N02705-001 | SPS-HEATSINK FY22 M.2 SSD |
There must be a reason why HP is including heat sinks for the SSD's in the model series so I recommend that you buy a NVME SSD that comes with an included heatsink, such as the Samsung 990 Pro, which would be my first choice for a drive, if you don't want to spend $30 for the OEM SSD enclosure.
