HP Z230
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I want to install an SSD with the NV.Me form. I don't care if it's a Samsung, but it will be my boot drive. It seems absurdly difficult to find this simple info out, before I spend over 100$ for this SSD.

I assume my Z230 has not had a BIOS update recently, but am not sure.

THanks much for any info.

Hi,

You might want to consider a PCI-E m.2 adapter card. If you can locate a 4 lane adapter and m.2 SSD to match then you should experience a performance improvement over a 2.5" SSD.  This might be a poor man's solution to the HP Turbo.

I have a PCIe adapter card with a Plextor SSD (UEFI and MBR bootable) but it's only PCIe x2.   An x4 compatible duo should be a better solution. However, my Intel 750 is a lot faster.

Hi,

Please post the HP product number for your PC. How to Find the HP Model Number and the HP Product Number or let HP automatically find your PC model number and HP network attached printers. This will allow others to review your issue, make suggestions and review your responses. This is usually the best way to get assistance.

I looked at one Z230 and it doesn't even show specifications for a m.2 slot.  What did you have in mind?

Hi,

I found the answer to my question, which is "no". The Z230 cannot accommodate the NV,Me form factor in it's (its) BIOS. Hence HP provides an over-expensive (even used) HP Turbo SSD, for a PCIe slot, which is not at all rpice competitive with regular NV.Me memory sticks. THis issue was corrected with the Z240, I believe. I am going to use a Samsung Evo 850.

Thanks much for the response to my question!

can it be used as bootable device Or will be only additional storage device only.
