I have an hp z400. Bought and installed the LSI MegaRAID SAS/SATA 9260-8i controller. There was a problem. The computer "does not see" this controller during boot, because of this I cannot enter the controller settings to work with disks. The controller is new. Please tell me what I need to do to make the controller work.

you would be much better served to use a SATA based SSD as a boot drive raid arrays require knowledge on how to create/manage and recovery of failed arrays

the LSI 9260-8i is a common legacy (nowadays obsolete) internal SAS/SATA RAID ONLY controller and your system and this controller will only support a boot drive of 2TB or less non bootable (data) drives can be any size if formatted as "GPT"

windows 10/11 do not have built-in drivers for this card as such drivers need to either be slipstreamed into the Install OS or the driver manually loaded during the OS install using the "F6" method

Edit 9-25-25

there are windows 10 9260 compatible drivers posted on the lenovo site for their 140 series server which i have attached to this post read the included docs for which files to use

have the extracted LSI 9260 drivers available on the root a fat 32 non bootable USB key which has been pre inserted

connect the drives to the LSI controller then power on, wait for the LSI card to prompt for entry into it's bios then do so

from within the LSI card bios create the desired raid array, and once created exit the LSI card bios' and the system will reboot

start the windows OS install and at the select drive to install the OS on click on the blue "F6"  add driver link and select the USB key once the driver loads the raid card's raid array should now be visible in the shown drive list select that drive and the OS install should now proceed
