HP Z420 workstation
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

my HP z420 has a xeon e5-1620 v1 but the other tower I have of the same version has  a xeon e5 1650v2. the 1650 v2 uses the C602 chipset. but what chipset does the xeon e5-1620 v1 use. and I assume that I can not replace the 1620 with the 1650v2?

Hi @37293

They use the same chipset, but before changing the processor first check to see if you have an updated BIOS, HP may put restrictions on the processors.

I don't think you will have any problems with this processor. see here.

then why is it that on Intel's website the chipset c602 does not support the e5 1620, and the only v1 e5's that it supports are e5-46XX series? and not related but in the spec sheet I have it says that there is a place for a optional 2ND CPU in the system is this right?

There is the pcie 2.0 and the pcie 3.0 chipset you are looking at intel version 3.0 but your PC is version 2.0.

this is what I see when I go to that exact chipset on Intel's website for e5 v1 CPUs for the c602 chipset, is this just a out of date list?or am I looking at the wrong thing still? just to clarify , I am looking to see if the xeon e5-1620 v1 will work with the c602 chip set even though it is not listed.Screenshot 2025-01-28 1.06.31 PM.png

As I explained that is the list for p for PCie 3.0, your processor is listed in the first link I sent you, which is the only one supported by HP.
