Is there a list of compatible components for the HP Z6 G4? I would like to make upgrades but I am not sure if it's plug and play or if it's locked in to hp specific products, etc.
Thanks

And last but certainly not least, here's the UserBenchMark link to HP Z6 G4 Workstation (Super) Users. I often consult UserBenchMark PC links, as they provide a wealth of information which specific PC components work/are compatible, and how well they work performance-wise: UserBenchmark: HP Z6 G4 Workstation Compatible Components.
Hope this was helpful.

Excellent question. Short answer: most will.
Caveat: HP listed all the compatible (read: the ones they tested and approved -NOT a complete list, btw) socket 3647 processors in the links I provided in my previous post. Such as the Xeon W-3223 (8 Cores, 16 Threads) all the way to the Xeon W-3275 (28 Cores, 56 Threads).
Even though the Xeon-W "M" versions were not listed by HP, they are also compatible with your HP Z6 G4 Workstation, if you go through the HP Z6 G4 Workstation UserBenchMark link. Here is the list of the highest scoring top 16:
Socket 3647 compatibility starting from the Xeon W-3223:
Link: CPU-Upgrade: Intel Xeon W-3223 CPU
And another socket 3647 compatibility link:
Link: Intel Xeon Platinum 8160 - CD8067303405600 / BX806738160 (cpu-world.com)
Summarizing: I would recommend sticking with HP's "approved" processors, or the ones you can find in the UserBenchMark link.

That is affirmative: applies to M.2 NVMe SSDs as well. Looks like you got two Gen3 M.2 slots:
Again, I want to refer to the UserBenchMark link to look at insanely fast M.2 NVMe SSDs:
Such as these M.2 NVMe SSD -reflecting my personal recommendations:
Samsung 980 Pro NVMe PCIe M.2 2TB (354%)
Samsung 970 Pro NVMe PCIe M.2 1TB (337%)
Samsung 970 Evo NVMe PCIe M.2 1TB (377%)
Samsung SM951 NVMe PCIe M.2 512GB (450%)
Corsair Force MP600 NVMe PCIe M.2 1TB (329%)
Why Samsung? I got outstanding experiences with this brand. Show & Tell example: this is a UserBenchMark performance link from one of my heavily upgraded legacy HP desktop projects: https://www.userbenchmark.com/UserRun/53529086, where I fitted a Samsung 980 Pro Gen4 M.2 2TB drive in a Gen3 M.2 NVMe SSD slot and reached a whopping 412% -and not to forget my second installed M.2 SSD: a Samsung 970 Evo NVMe PCIe M.2 1TB drive reaching 400%.
Not too shabby for a legacy 7th gen Intel processor platform -but I digress.
