HP Z820 Workstation

Hello everyone,

I have this old, but very reliable, Z820 workstation, with an ancient Quadro K2000 GPU and I was considering upgrading the graphics card, even if it's for a short time before I upgrade the entire machine.

It has a 1125W PSU, 2x Intel(R) Xeon(R) CPU E5-2680 0 @ 2.70GHz a 1TB SSD, 64GB Ram and 2 other HDDs.

Will an RTX 3060 or 4060 work in this setup?

I have doubts regarding the 6 pin and 8 pin cables, would a single 6 to 8 HP cable do the trick?

Thank you guys so much.

@aligntoworld,

Welcome to our peer-to-peer HP Community Forum!

Do you mean you only got one available 8-pin (6+2-pin) PCIe power cable?

In any regards, yes, your HP Z820 Workstation is compatible with an RTX 3060 (or RTX 3070) and an RTX 4060, or any RTX graphics card for that matter.

Kind Regards,

Thank you so much for your reply.

I have three available 6 pin cables, do I connect one of them to the 6 to 8 pin cable? Or does it need two 6 pins cable to power the 8 pin?

@aligntoworld,

You'll need to buy a dual 6-pin PCIe to 8-pin PCIe power adapter cable:

This means you should aim for a GPU that requires only one 8-pin PCIe power cable (or one that needs one 8-pin PCIe and one 6-pin PCIe power cables).
