Hello. I have recent acquired an hp docking station G5 (without displaylink) for my office laptop. The office laptop works without any problem. Now to the main question. I also have two iPads at home, an iPad 5 (with lightning port) and an iPad Air M2 (with usb c). Does the docking station work with my iPad Air? Anyone with the experience regarding this? Thanks in advance.

Welcome to our HP Community forum!
The HP USB-C Dock G5 is primarily designed for Windows laptops and does not officially support iPads. However, since your iPad Air M2 has a USB-C port, it might have limited compatibility with the dock. Here’s what you need to know:
What Works?
- Charging – The dock provides power via USB-C, so your iPad Air M2 should charge when connected.
- USB Peripherals – If you connect a keyboard, mouse, or external storage to the dock, your iPad Air may recognize them (depending on iPadOS compatibility).
- Audio Devices – Headphones or speakers connected to the dock might work.
What Probably Won’t Work?
- External Displays – The HP Dock G5 relies on DisplayPort Alternate Mode, which is not supported by iPads. Your iPad Air M2 will not output video through the dock’s HDMI or DisplayPort.
- Network (Ethernet Port) – iPads generally don’t recognize Ethernet through the HP Dock G5. However, a USB-C to Ethernet adapter might work separately.
Alternative Solutions for External Displays:
If your goal is to use an external monitor, you’ll need a USB-C to HDMI adapter or a dock that explicitly supports iPad video output, such as:
- Apple’s USB-C Digital AV Multiport Adapter
- A Thunderbolt 3/4 dock with iPad support
Conclusion:
Your iPad Air M2 should work with the HP Dock G5 for charging and basic peripherals, but external displays and Ethernet will not function. The iPad 5 with a Lightning port is not compatible with the dock at all. If you need display support, a dedicated iPad-compatible dock or an Apple adapter is the better option.
