Hi, I bought an envy 34 and did not want to pay HP's exorbitant prices for a larger HD and memory. I got a 2 tb WD 850 black nvme for $99 and that upgrade went off mostly without a hitch (I had problems cloning the drive but that was software not hardware related)
Upgrading the memory on the other hand has been a fiasco. First, tech support from the manufacturers is nearly useless. They have a speech to read to you of troubleshooting steps and once you make it through the gauntlet of words they have nothing.
HP support says "does the original ram work?, Then not our problem. Have a nice day" and "if you want support for upgrading the memory, buy it from us"
I have tried Crucial ( their support is much worse than i recall from the past) And twice samsung modules that are IDENTICAL to the oem memory , Pics below.
the crucial was 2 16gb ddr5 sodimms which required removing the 8's that came with since all 4 channels need to be the same capacity. So it booted to a message in a blue box in the middle of the screen saying "incompatible memory detected computer will shut down in 15 seconds"
Crucial support essentially had me try one module at a time and the issue remained the same. couldn't get into the bios it was up 15 seconds and then off. so i returned the crucial memory and went on amazon and searched for the memory module part numbers that were installed, Samsung 8GB DDR5 4800MHz SODIMM PC5-38400 CL40 1Rx16 1.1V SO-DIMM p/n M425R1GB4BB0 and when that came I tried it, with the original memory, by itself, individual modules and one of 3 things would happen
it would give the blue screen message about incompatible memory and shut off 15 seconds later - happened a few times intermittently
it would boot but show only the original 16gb and never get past the post screen - happened once
This is what it would mostly do 3 long 2 short post beeps repeating on a black screen. have to hold the power button to shut off.
I then put in a replacement order with amazon, assuming that maybe the memory i got was defective and needed replacing. Well just got the replacement and.... more of the same. Samsung semiconductor is not the same as samsung the tv, phone, computer company. They don't have a phone tech line. you have to find their site and then put in a request for contact. so will i ever hear from them? who knows.
i am mystified why the EXACT SAME ram will not work. TWICE. I am frustrated with the support, i get that hp doesn't want to subsidize other companies products. I am most frustrated with the memory manufacturers having essentially no support or assistance that was worth calling for.
anybody have a suggestion? is there something to hit on the keyboard to get it to take the new memory?
Crucial said if i left the memory in for 20 minutes it would step down in speed, but, since the computer shuts off after 15 seconds so it cannot ever sync with the motherboard.
incidentally, HP accessory sales sells a memory upgrade, just guess how much 32gb is? $274 per 16gb and you have to buy a pair. That's right, for what the market charges less than $100 for, HP charges 5X as much.
OEM samsung
newly ordered samsung.

I am not sure if it will help but the Nov 2023 bios update supported some of the newer memory
1. Provides improved security.
2. Improves system compatibility.
3. Support New SAMSUNG/Hynix/Kingston/Micron DDR5-5600 memory
Note that it is always dangerous when updating the BIOS. If interrupted the system may not be recoverable.

my computer shipped with this firmware as it was built 1 week after this firmware released.
edit. To be completely sure I checked the bios it displayed f.16 since i did not see the A I checked in windows. and firmware check passed.
I then downloaded the bios from the link you provided and applied it. In both cases after a reboot and getting back into windows and shutting down. I tried the samsung memory again and in each case... post beeps 3 long 2 short
