WIRED USB HP DESKTOP KEYBOARD NOT WORKING:

Pavilion desktop AMD12 PC-570-p059 with wired usb hp keyboard SK2028 with windows 10 fully updated.

I am reposting this because I have not been able to solve the problem and other people are having similar problems with their desktop or laptop (notebook) hp keyboards after the Windows October/November 2018 updates. I have been working the problem with HP community support and microsoft windows support community and credible support websites. Below is an overview of my actions taken and description of my specific problem.

Driver wont start for USB2 wired keyboard for my HP pavilion desktop 64but AMD12 PC-570-p0xx windows10 updated to Dec09 2018. I have USB2 and USB3 ports. The issue is NOT the keyboard can run the HP keyboard test on start up so keyboard physically works and USB connection works. In device manager the drivers in Human Interface Devices, USB input device would show error message that driver did not start. This seems to be the core issue. The drivers are for HID compliant devices. There are 3 listed in property for 'USB input device'  hidclass.sys hidparse.sys hidusb.sys Seem to have been created/modified Sept 15 2018. Through an update? Cannot be rolled back. Changing ports and reinstalling did not solve the issue.

1) Windows Update: Feature update windows 10 version 1809 installed Dec 09 2018.

2) Windows Version: windows 10 version 1809 build 17763.168

3) Driver Error Code: code 10 "A non constant main item was declaired without a corresponding usage" for human interface device, usb input device. drivers hidclass.sys hidparse.sys hidusb.sys version 10.1.17763.1 win build 160101.0800.

Actions Taken:

A0) Run through all windows troubleshooting and HP support assistant updates and troubleshooting.

A1) From command prompt as administrator ran: sfc/scannow

A2) From command prompt as administrator ran DSIM clean up: Dism /online /cleanup-image /scanhealth

A3) From command prompt as adminsitrator ran DSIM clean up: Dism /online /cleanup-image /checkhealth

A4) From command prompt as administrator ran DSIM clean up: Dism /online /cleanup-image /restorehealth

A5) From command prompt as administrator ran again: sfc/scannow

1) Windows 10 fully updated till December 25. All HP updates fully installed.

2) Wireless Logitech K400 keyboard installed via usb dongle. Works fine.

3) HP Component keyboard test. Complete fail while in Windows.

4) HP Component wired keyboard test on startup before windows starts succesful. USB wired keyboard works before windows starts.

5) Device Manager. Show hidden devices and unistalled all hidden devices.

6) Device Manager. Unistalled keyboard drivers, installed drivers from repository.

7) Device Manager. Unistalled USB controllers and root hubs. Then re-installed.

😎 Device Manager. Changed power settings on controllers and hubs so that windows could NOT shut off.

9) Ran Windows keyboard and driver toubleshooting to no effect.

10) Installed windows update KB4468304 "HP Keyboard Filter Driver for Windows 10 1803 and 1809 (x64)" 10/12/2018 from microsoft update catalog to no effect.

11) Turned OFF fast start up through power management Changed setting did complete shut down and start up. No effect.

12) Changed connection ports, 2 usb2 and 2 usb3 ports to no effect.

13) Registry Edit. Changed various 'enhanced power management enabled' and switched to 0 (disabled).

14) Wired HP keyboard would not work on my HP Pavilion laptop in either usb2 or usb3 ports. But keyboard would work and pass HP keyboard test on start up before windows runs.

15) I have run all possible tests and troubleshooting available through windows and HP support assistant.

16) Installed old driver series for sp73272. the HP slim business keyboard drivers to no effect. (But I may investigate this possible solution further and re-try).

17) Ease of Access Settings (actually did this early on, it is often recommended to do this early) In windows settings, ease of access, keyboard, toggle everything to off especially filter and sticky keys.

18) AMD A12-9800 Radeon R7 Graphics: I ran amdcleanuputility-y-x64.exe in safe mode which is designed to thoroughly remove any previously installed AMD driver files, registries, and driver store from system except chipset drivers. Then shut down system and started again. Windows update then reinstalled drivers etc. For information go here > AMD.

19) BIOS: Restored BIOS to factory defaults.

20) PC power cycle, discharging pc. Unplugged pc, held down power button 30 seconds, left alone 10 minutes, reconnected and powered on.

21) BIOS checked for updates and tried to install updates. This failed so will leave this for now.

January 2019 Update: I seem to have exhausted all fixes and solutions. Right now examing updating 'chipset drivers' and 'BIOS' There do not seem to be chipset driver updates available for my AMD 2018 windows 1809 yet. And I am very hesitant about updating BIOS. I have BIOS F.20 and there is a BIOS F.35 rev A (nov 5 2018) available.

I have been working through this problem in the Microsoft Community you can find my messages and posts to this HP keyboard not working, drivers not start issue here > Keyboard Not Working.

The keyboard in question is a HP wired usb keyboard SK2028 which looks like this:

hp keyboard sk2028hp keyboard sk2028

That is a summary of my keyboard not working problem as of January 15th 2019. There are several people with similar keyboard issues with their HP desktops and notebooks so I have posted this overview.  I will be working this issue over the weekend and if no solution is found I will switch permanently to a wireless logitech MK235 keyboard that I have bought.

If you have any solutions that I have not tried or you have solved your keyboard issues please post me a message.

Thanks, Richard. (January 15 2019)
