I’ve had some trouble finding the recommended power supply for my HP ProDesk 400 G6 in Australia. There seem to be a lot of the 19.5v 65watt units around (p/n: L40094-001), but the 90w and the 120w seem to be very hard to find, the closest I’ve been able to get is a 19v 90 watt (p/n: 609947-001, 709566-002 ).
So I have a couple of questions.
1. What does the centre pin do? I’ve read it supplies a voltage in proportion to the power output of the supply, other places I’ve read that it uses one wire protocol to send data about supply spec to the device and still other places claiming its a resistance load. Which is true and is the function universal across the power supplies.
2. There seems to be many different HP supplies with outputs 18.5v 19v 19.5v and 65-90 watts. How do you find out which ones are safe to use with the device, e.g. is it enough that it is a 19v or 19.5v supply with the correct plug?
Thanks for any guidance.
