I have a hp ProDesk 400 g3

500w psu

1050ti

24gb ram

i5-6500

I am looking to upgrade the processor and the socket type on the ones I am looking at are the same, but idk if they will work and I can't find a clear enough answer to pull the plug on one. I've seen online that I can do a i7-6700, iv also seen i7-7700. what is the difference between kaby lake and Skylake. kaby lake is i7-7700k and the Skylake is i7-6700k. are they all the same or will any of them work. I've read things about them not booting up or needing a bios update and I'm not sure as I am new to all this and so far, I've done this all myself from a factory g3. It is not much and it's not hard for me to do, but anyone with a clear answer please let me know!!
