HP support site - Windows 10 - Bios upgrades HP 6200 Pro SFF

    I'm trying to update the BIOS on an HP Compaq 6200 Pro SFF. It currently is running BIOS V2.15 and Win 10 64 bit. I have attempted to update the BIOS under Windows without success. I have flashed the BIOS on numerous PC's in the past using a floppy with the proper flash utility and the correct bin file  on it. Boot to the floppy and away she goes. I assume the same thing could be done with a USB thumb drive, but I see no flash.exe file nor a bin file.

Clearly I am missing the boat (missing the entire navy?) here. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi:

If you are trying to install the latest BIOS (v02.29), then you should be glad it hasn't worked thus far for you.

When v.02.29 is installed and the PC is running W10, it takes over two minutes for the PC to restart, unless you hide the security device (TPM) in the BIOS.  This isn't good if the PC ever has to run bitlocker.

So...in W10, you want to only update the BIOS as far as v.02.28.

Now here is how you do it without any regard to what operating system you are running on your PC.

Download and run the above file.  An information window will open.

Read the info on how to flash the BIOS under the Startup Menu / F10 Setup BIOS Flashing section.

Get a USB flash drive.  Format it with the FAT32 file system.

Copy the file contents of the DOS Flash folder to the USB flash drive (click on the View Contents of the DOS Flash Folder link at the bottom of the above Startup Menu / F10 Setup BIOS Flashing section).  

Copy just the file contents in the folder, not the folder.

Restart the PC.  Tap the ESC key at the beginning of the HP welcome screen.

Select the F10 system setup menu to get access to the BIOS.

Select the File tab>Flash System ROM command.

Select the USB flash drive.  The PC should now 'see' the BIOS flash files on the flash drive.

Follow the on screen instructions to update the BIOS.

Here is a discussion regarding what happens if you flash the BIOS to v.02.29.  The 8200 Elite has the same BIOS family and uses the same BIOS flash files...

Thank you. I see that I attempted to use 5.03 revB, marked as "Business Desktops BIOS Utilities". That certainly doesn't seem to be correct.    I will proceed tomorrow with version 2.28 revA as recommended and report back. And thanks to your efforts (in previous posts) I knew not to pick 2.29.

You are correct.  The Business Desktops BIOS Utilities does not update the BIOS.

Easy peasy it is... if you have a good USB drive. Once I found another drive it all dropped into place. And the PC is running better too.

i wish, i've seen it before updating my BIOS

unfortunately i updated with the 2.31 😞

it needs now 3 minutes minimum to start the BIOS

is there a way to go back to the 2.28?
