Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

This device should be able to Run Windows 10-64 bit with no problems. But I cannot get it to install - I created a 64-bit USB using the MS Software Downloader tool and have installed a 128GB 2.5" SSD and removed the 16GB SATA which was in there.  I set the BIOS to the defaults - and booted from the USB (after pressing <F9> on boot.  I chose the UEFI Entry for the USB.  It boots and begins the installation process just fine.  I gets to the point where it is trying to update the BCD (the NVRAM BootManager) and it fails.  Have done this 6 times - 3 times I did a complete BIOS reset using the steps by HP with the jumper and CMOS button (no A/C).  Still fails.  I had UBUNTU installed on here before - and there is an entry in the BIOS Boot Menu and when you press <F9> for it - I cannot get rid of it.  Even booting with Ubuntu LIVE CD - efibootmgr fails to show the list (see error) - nothing I have tried works.

This from 'efibootmgr'

No BootOrder is set; firmware will attempt recovery

There is also this from 'efibootmgr -v -v'

Yet - if I install Ubutunu using the same BIOS settings I am attempting to use for Windows - it installs, boots and works fine - but still cannot do anything with the EFI BootMgr.

Hi:

The only suggestion I can offer would be this:

Instead of using the media creation tool to automatically create the USB flash drive installer, download the ISO file instead.

Then use the free Rufus utility to transfer the ISO file to your USB flash drive.

Rufus - Create bootable USB drives the easy way

Set it up exactly as you see it in the illustration for Windows.

I have done this as well - it boots same as the one I created and gets to the same point and fails. There has to be a way to completely CLEAN the nvram which holds this data.

I attempted to use the files downloaded from HP to put the image back onto the machine.  I chose the WIN8 image - while this one had WIN7E installed when I got it.  It boots up, and begins the installation and then stops with the following error:

What gives?  What does this mean?  Does not the system retain the license SLIC in the BIOS?

The tab you can pull out has 12WWPLBE3**#SABA#DABA   -  Google search advised this means it had Windows 7 installed - why would it matter if I put Windows 8 on there?
