Dear All ,

I have a Workstation Z2 G4 Tower. I am in the search of replacing the Hdd because the default setup is really hilarious.

I am thinking of replacing the HDD with an M.2 NVMe disk. I want to know how can i see if PCI express 3 or 4 is supported?

[Personal Information Removed]

The board has 2 slots for HDD . I need to know the speed.

Best regards ,

Chris.

@Ramirez_gr,

Welcome to our HP User Forum!

According to https://support.hp.com/us-en/product/hp-z2-tower-g4-workstation/20063240/document/c06100744, your HP Workstation Z2 G4 Tower has two (2) PCIe-M.2 Gen3 x4 slots.

Thank you for your imminent reply.

Is there any suggestion on a 1TB m2 drive? What is the best? From a quick search i made i found Crucial P5 Plus

and Kingston FURY Renegade PCIe 4.0 NVMe M.2 SSD. Is this OK?

Best Regards.

Dear @Ramirez_gr,

When I am going to answer the question "what is the best", please appreciate that my response is somewhat biased based on my own experiences.

Please note that a PCIe 4.0 NVMe Gen4 SSD will work in your PCIe 3.0 NVMe Gen3 M.2 motherboard slot, but will do so at PCIe 3.0 speeds. In other words, you can spend the extra money for a Gen4 card but it is not going to benefit you.

Without further ado, the very best 1TB M.2 Gen3 drives that are fully compatible with your PCIe-M.2 Gen3 x4 slots are the:

1.) Samsung 970 PRO SSD 1TB - M.2 NVMe Gen3 Interface Internal Solid State Drive with V-NAND Technology (MZ-V7P1T0BW) Black/Red

A close second:

2.) Samsung 970 EVO Plus SSD 1TB, M.2 NVMe Gen3 Interface Internal Solid State Hard Drive with V-NAND Technology for Gaming, Graphic Design, MZ-V7S1T0B/AM

An excellent third pick:

3.) Samsung 980 SSD 1TB M.2 NVMe Gen3 Interface Internal Solid State Drive with V-NAND Technology for Gaming, Heavy Graphics, Full Power Mode, MZ-V8V1T0B/AM

Hope this helps.

Kind Regards,
