HP Z620
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I have an HP z620 for which I am planning to buy the Adaptec ASR-71605 to add 3xSAS drives. I read the LSI SAS RAID Host Bus Adapter installation (http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c03276834) to get a general idea about the install of the RAID controller since the HP z620 has pre-built cabling connected to the system board and I didn't know that before.

My question is:

Upon inspecting my machine, I found that there are three cables that are connected to the system board on empty ports. According to the doc above, those cables need to be connected to the internal SAS to SATA cables coming out of the RAID card. According to @DGroves, on another post, indicated "forward" type cables.

Would it be something like this (example) - https://www.amazon.com/Cable-Matters-Internal-SFF-8087-Breakout/dp/B012BPLYJC)

Would this be compatible with the cable on my HP z620? Also, please confirm that my assumption of connecting the SFF-8087 to one of the (four available SAS ports on Adaptec ASR-71605 RAID card), and three of the four SATA cables would connect to the SATA cables that are in my system board by unplugging them. Am i missing something else?

Thank you in advance.

Best,

Sam

a follow up to what? i think my replies have answered the posted questions if you feel different please state what you believe has not been answered

further, i recommend you take the time to READ THE USER MANUAL on the adaptec controller, as it describes how the card is connected for various setups

for your usage on the z620, the adaptec card connects directly to the SAS/SATA drives, the motherboard controller/sata ports are not used in this type of setup
