I recently bought a HP Pavilion 27-ca1002na 27" All-in-One PC - Intel® Core™ i7, 1 TB SSD.  This20230409_102233.jpgright endright endleft endleft end came with a HP710 keyboard and mouse set.   I would like someone to tell me what the symbols on the keys on the top row of the keyboard mean, what the se keys will do and what key combinations are requires to implement the functions depicted on the graphics.

Hi @PR59

Welcome to HP Support Community!

We noticed that this thread hasn't had any updates in a while since your original post; while this is rare, we didn't want this post to remain unanswered, so, here's the solution to your query. We hope it helps you and everyone viewing this post 😊

Thank you for sharing the images. Based on the top row of the HP 710 wireless keyboard shown, here is a breakdown of the special function keys (F1–F12 and others) and what each symbol means, including how to activate them:

Top Row Function Key Descriptions (left to right):

Key Symbol Description Default or Use with Fn
F1 🔇 Mute audio Default
F2 🔉 Volume down Default
F3 🔊 Volume up Default
F4 Previous track (media) Default
F5 ▶️ Play/Pause (media) Default
F6 Next track (media) Default
F7 🌐 Launch web browser Default
F8 ✉️ Launch email client Default
F9 📷 Snip & Sketch / Screenshot tool Default
F10 🔲 Maximize window / Switch apps May require Fn
F11 🌙 Sleep Mode Default
F12 🔒 Lock screen Default

 Key Combinations & Tips:

  • Function Lock (Fn Lock):

    • If pressing F1–F12 performs their traditional functions (like refreshing or opening help), hold Fn key + top-row key to activate the special function.

    • If the special functions (e.g., volume) work by default, you don’t need to hold Fn.

    • To toggle Fn Lock: Try pressing Fn + Esc. Some keyboards support this to switch default behavior.
