HPZ240
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I have just bought an HPZ240 Workstartion. It says that I can add a hardware at M.2 PCIe3x4. I would like to add the following SSD - Samsung 970 EVO 500GB - NVMe PCIe M.2 2280 SSD   and boot it from there... will this work? Also can I chage to Boot from this than from the SATA in BIOS?

you should first download the HP documentation on the z240 from HP

second, workstation questions should be posted in the workstation related forum

last, using the forums search function can usually locate previous posts/replys on subjects similar to your question

all the HP zx40 systems support booting from nvme based drives, yes the bios allows selecting the boot drive

keep in mind you can not clone a legacy (SATA) MBR drive onto a nvme drive it will not boot

windows 7, does not have support for booting nvme unless you add the nessary hotfix patches

windows 10 is the recomended OS and id is fully supported by HP, all drivers can be found on the HP site

Thank you very much for your answer. Regarding this points:

keep in mind you can not clone a legacy (SATA) MBR drive onto a nvme drive it will not boot

If I insert the new NVMe to the M.2 in HP Z240 and then use the Samsung Data Migration software to clone the current SATA to the NVMe will this not work?
