I have purchased a 10TB western digital external hard drive that i removed from the case and wanted to install into the PC. it works fine while plugged in externally but when i try to plug in via SATA cable it freezes the PC on start up. the bios is very old (JA2 v80.46 revision date is 10/03/2013)  and so not sure if this is the issue. i already have a 1TB solid state as the boot drive and then 2 other drives a 4TB and 5TB and had a 1TB which is what i removed to add the 10TB

Hi BeemerBiker,

Did you read the comments below the video?  The power supply in the external case supports the "SATA 3.3 connector" spec.  Covering just 1 pin up may not be enough.  The power supply in the case provides different voltage levels that make the drive work only in the case.  It does not surprise me that WD made it more difficult to use their drives out of the enclosures they was designed for.  Takeing it out of the case and putting it in a hotter environment can shorten its life and if it fails in the warranty period WD has to absorb the repair cost.

Yea, you taped it but I think that Western Digital has figured that out and found a better way to prevent the DISK from being used in a desktop.
