My HP Pavilion All-in-One - 22-a140xt has had repeated hard drive errors. I've done all the things I could find - reformat, reinstall, chkdisk, scandisk. But it keeps not starting with fatal errors. Finally, I ran the HP diagnostics at start up and selected "Hard drive extended test." I got this message:
Hard Drive Optimized DST Check: FAILED
Failure ID: RGFTGM-7S08MP-QFFWLK-61S103
Product ID: N1N09AV#ABA
I bought this in Nov 2015, so it's out of warranty, and I assume my HD is toast. So my question is:
Should I buy a new PC or a new HD? And if a new HD, which model?
Thanks!

Hi:
If you like the PC, I think it would be a lot cheaper to buy a new hard drive.
I checked the parts list and the upgrading and servicing guide and it looks like you would replace the drive with a standard 3.5" desktop hard drive.
But I suggest you open up the PC and check what is in there now before buying a new HDD.

I don't know what storage size drive you have in there now, or what size you want/need, but here is a link to a good quality 1 TB SATA III hard drive.
If you don't have W10 recovery disks, you can make your own plain W10 installation media by using the media creation tool at the link below. The file should automatically work with the product key in your PC's BIOS.
https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows10
If you do have recovery media, then you will have to replace the hard drive with one of at least the same size as what you have in there now.
If you make the plain W10 installation media, then you can install the drivers and available software for your PC at the link below.
