Greetings,

Welcome to the forum.

I am not a HP employee.

A brand new 2.5 inch, 512 GB, HP SATA SSD is reporting the incorrect drive size at 1 GB?

Are you using Disk Management to initialize the new SSD?

Try reconnecting power and data cables to the SSD.

The new SSD could be faulty.

No, I have had it for a while now. I cloned it and ran for about a month and it did the same thng. That was about three months ago. I don't remember how I fixed it. And yes I have ttryed initializing it with disk management. Frankly this has me stumped. Thanks for your reply.

Hi,

You're very welcome.

Can you format and use the correct 512 GB of disk space?

It is a 512 GB SSD.

No it will not format.

I can get it to initialize occasionally but even when it does it will not Format anything over that first gig.

It's under warranty. I'm about to call HP

Hi,

Maybe you should contact HP Support.

The drive could be bad if the BIOS and the operating system only see 1 GB of available storage.

@Grzwacz,

That particular model 2.5" SSD is circa June 2017.

Bought separately it had a 3 year warranty. Installed in an HP product, it has a 1 year warranty.

It was bought new in February of this year from Newegg.

I was going to talk to tech support but clicking on the link seems to have opened a case with them with no reply. Oh well, try tomorrow.
