Presario Sr1000
Microsoft Windows XP
So I came across an old desktop pc in a garagesale today. Just about 50$ with 24" screen and relatively new wireless keyboard and mouse from logitech. A bargain I thought. Got it home, recovered it and want to know what makes it tick. Read a little online here about specs, but it doesn't say if it's a 64bit or 32bit system. While it says 1GB max memory(and 1gig it has)it has 4 slots and should be capable of reading at least 2GB memory with a 32bit system(which I suspect it is).
Can someone give me some hard answers and maybe I could save this oldtimer and give it new life as a media presenter for my flat screen 🙂

Hi,

It is around 12-13 years old now. Not much information you can find. The following specs should be good enough:

    http://www.cnet.com/au/products/hp-compaq-presario-sr1000/specs/

Yes, it only a 32bit machine (very hard to find 64 bit machine 12 years ago). The following statment confirm this:

Downside: Since the SR1000 line is targeted at mainstream users, you won't see configuration options for a second hard drive or the latest-and-greatest graphics card. Also, while some of AMD's faster Athlon 64 processors have trickled down into the mainstream, HP offers only the 32-bit Athlon XP chips on SR1000Z models. Your choices for bundling a monitor are similarly limited, with neither LCDs nor CRTs available in screen sizes larger than 17 inches.

I would not spend more money to upgrade this machine specially for flat screen presentation.  Keep the keyboard and monitor then chuck it to a bin.

Regards.

No PC coming with 1GB of memory would be running a 64-bit OS; so basically, you are safe presuming it is 32-bit.

Windows 64-bit machines starting showing up in quantity with Win7.

If you can boot to a desktop, open a command prompt and enter "winver" and it will tell you what is running.

Good Luck
