@Luzio1,

Welcome to our HP Community forum!

First of all, you can install a 4th generation M.2 NVMe SSD in your PC and it is going to work just fine because the technology is backward compatible.  Secondly, your HP OMEN 25L Desktop GT12-0xxx as fitted with a Dorado motherboard (SSID: 8704) is a highly upgradeable platform: if you were to spend money on meaningful upgrades, why not focus on upgrading your processor such as an i7-10700/i7-10700F or an i9-10900/i9-10900F, and even the i7-10700K/F or the i9-10900K/F!

Your PC can be fitted with up to 4 x 32GB of DDR4 PC4-25600, 3200 MHz, Non-ECC, Unbuffered, DIMM, 288-pin RAM, and assuming you got a 500-watt power supply, you could upgrade your graphics card with a smaller-sized (dual fan) RTX 4060 powered by a single 8-pin PCIe power cable.  If you got a 750-watt power supply, you'll have the option of selecting from many more high-end graphics cards.

Point being, don't worry about 3rd gen vs. 4th gen M.2 NVMe SSDs.  A high-quality 3rd gen M.2 NVMe SSD such as the Samsung 970 EVO Plus or using a 4th gen M.2 NVMe SSD in your PC is plenty fast for top gaming purposes, and you would be better served focusing on a processor and graphics card upgrades.

Kind Regards,

Greetings @Luzio1

Welcome back to the Forum.

Advising component upgrades depends on what you want do on the upgraded PC, your budget, and what platform (AMD or Intel) you want to do.

I would advise using a different case if you are looking at doing major component upgrades. Using a new case removes space constraints, RGB connections and other connection issues, and other compatibility problems.

Component Upgrade Options using the HP Case:

Motherboard:

The PC's case can do standard uATX MBs. But you would have to upgrade the CPU and, probably, memory if you get a newer MB.

Power Supply:

Your PC's case can do retail power supplies having the same dimension as the existing HP provided power supply.

Graphics Card:

A dual fan, double slot, GPU at around 9.5 to 10 inches is doable. Verify by measuring along the PCIe x16 graphics card slot (LxHxW) to see what fits in the case.

Remember, the new graphics card needs room to breath. It should not butt up against the PSU.

Saying I change the case can you tell me specific component names of produts because I am not very good with those technical names

Do you think I can use a 4080?

What specific components do you want to upgrade?

@NonSequitur777 provided very good component upgrade options if you keep the HP: case, MB, and power supply.

You could not do a 4080 in the HP case using the HP factory power supply. The 4080 will simply not fit in the HP case.

Using a 4080 with an Intel 10400F CPU is also not a good component combo.
