Hi @JJusa28,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
If your HP Slim Desktop S01 is connected via Ethernet but you can only use WiFi, there are several steps you can take to troubleshoot and resolve the issue.
Check Physical Connections:
- Ensure that the Ethernet cable is securely plugged into both your computer's Ethernet port and your router or modem.
Restart Your Computer and Network Devices:
- Sometimes, a simple restart can resolve connectivity issues. Restart your computer and also power cycle your modem/router by unplugging it, waiting for 30 seconds, and then plugging it back in.
Update Network Drivers:
- Outdated or corrupted network drivers can cause connectivity problems. To update your network drivers:
- Right-click on the Start menu and select "Device Manager."
- Expand the "Network adapters" section, right-click on your Ethernet adapter, and select "Update driver."
- Choose "Search automatically for updated driver software" and follow the on-screen instructions.
Check Network Adapter Settings:
- Ensure that your Ethernet adapter is enabled and configured correctly:
- Right-click on the network icon in the system tray (bottom-right corner of the screen) and select "Open Network & Internet settings."
- Click on "Change adapter options."
- Right-click on your Ethernet connection and make sure it is enabled (if it shows as disabled, right-click and select "Enable").
Reset TCP/IP Stack:
- Sometimes resetting the TCP/IP stack can resolve network issues:
- Open Command Prompt as an administrator (search for "cmd," right-click, and select "Run as administrator").
- Type the following commands one by one, pressing Enter after each:
netsh winsock reset
netsh int ip reset
ipconfig /release
ipconfig /renew
- Restart your computer after executing these commands.

Check for Network Interference:
- Nearby electronic devices or appliances can sometimes interfere with your network signal. Try moving your computer or router to minimize interference.
Check Router Settings:
- Ensure that your router settings (such as DHCP settings) are correctly configured. If possible, try connecting another device to the same Ethernet port to verify if the issue is with the computer or the network.
Test with Another Ethernet Cable or Port:
- The Ethernet cable itself or the port on your computer or router might be faulty. Try using a different Ethernet cable or connecting to a different Ethernet port on your router or modem.
Run Network Troubleshooter:
- Windows has a built-in Network Troubleshooter that can help diagnose and automatically fix network problems:
- Right-click on the network icon in the system tray and select "Troubleshoot problems."
Check for Firewall or Security Software Issues:
- Sometimes, firewall or security software settings can interfere with network connectivity. Temporarily disable any firewall or security software and check if the issue persists.
If none of these steps resolve the issue, there may be a hardware problem with your Ethernet adapter or your router/modem.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
